Edgewood

Atlanta is a tale of two Edgewoods. There’s Edgewood Avenue, with its eclectic and pulsating nightlife scene (think Joystick game bar and Sister Louisa’s), and then there’s Edgewood the neighborhood, a tight-knit community full of Craftsman bungalows. While communities like Druid Hills and Grant Park were meticulously planned by big developers, Edgewood arose organically over time, leading to a unique style of more modest homes on smaller lots.

Edgewood has changed a lot in recent years, thanks to the Edgewood Retail District, a walkable, open-air mall featuring 50 big-box retailers and boutiques, ranging from Target and Lowe’s to local indies like The Beehive gift shop.

Gentrified yet diverse, Edgewood Residents can kick soccer balls at Walker Park, visit the chickens at the Edgewood Community Learning Garden or see a play at the Pinch ‘N’ Ouch Theatre. For a true taste of the neighborhood, order up a pint at Ration & Dram, a tamale at El Tesoro, or house-made sausages at the Spotted Trotter. One more reason to get Edgy? The neighborhood is known for its annual Mac & Cheese Festival.
