Summerhill

Summerhill is having one heck of a season. One of Atlanta’s oldest neighborhoods, this urban community just south of Downtown was founded by freed slaves and Jewish immigrants in 1865. Decades later, it welcomed the world as host to the 1996 Olympic Stadium, which then became Turner Field, home of Atlanta’s beloved Braves baseball team.

Many forecasted lean times for Summerhill when the Braves moved outside city limits, but this history-making neighborhood is back—and better than ever. Georgia State University reinvented the landmark as Center Park Stadium, and the influx of redevelopment and student life has led to rapid revitalization.

The Georgia Avenue stretch hits a homerun with Little Bear restaurant, Woods Chapel BBQ, Big Softie ice cream, Little Tart bakeshop, Halfway Crooks brewing and Junior’s Pizza. Home prices are rapidly rising for historic, infill and condo communities. So get in while you can! Another great recommendation from our fellow Summerhill fans: Get the banana pudding flavor at Hero Donuts. (You’re welcome.)
